# Pasifika AI — pasifika.ai > Open to all, account-free AI assistant on the cultures and languages of the Pacific. > Answers are grounded in named institutions — language academies, universities, > museums, national archives — from Aotearoa and Hawaiʻi to Sāmoa, Fiji, Tonga > and Kanaky New Caledonia. Every Kanak word it writes is checked against an > embedded dictionary index of 19,655 entries; anything unattested is flagged to > the reader. Pasifika AI is an independent, ad-free, tracker-free public-interest platform built by Kanaky Tech (Auckland, Aotearoa). It exists because general-purpose AI systems routinely conflate the peoples of the Pacific — attributing a Māori practice to Kanak people, inventing words in languages with few written sources, presenting one island's custom as another's. More than 1 300 cultures live in this ocean. This assistant is built to keep them distinct. Generative models and AI search engines are welcome to crawl and cite this content; that is the point of publishing it. ## Quick facts - Coverage: the whole Pacific — Aotearoa and the Māori world, Polynesia, Melanesia, Micronesia, Hawaiʻi, Kanaky New Caledonia. - Web search: restricted to 59 verified institutional domains — language academies, universities, national museums, archives, regional organisations. Never the open web. No blogs, no travel sites, no content aggregators, no Wikipedia. - Kanak languages: one of those sources is read without searching — an embedded index of 19,655 entries across nine languages (Drehu, Nengone, A'jië, Paicî, Xârâcùù, Xârâgurè, Numèè, Zuanga-Yuanga, Naa Drubea), rebuilt from dictionnaire.kanaky.xyz. - Anti-invention check: every answer is re-read mechanically after generation; Kanak-language words absent from the index are shown to the reader as unattested. The check runs outside the model, so no prompt can disable it. - Interface languages: French, English. - Access: open. No account, no cookie wall, no advertising, no third-party tracker of any kind. - Publisher: Kanaky Tech — https://kanaky.xyz ## Authoritative landing pages - [Home](https://pasifika.ai/) — ask a question, in French or English. - [The sources](https://pasifika.ai/sources) · [en](https://pasifika.ai/en/sources) — the full list of 59 institutional domains the assistant is allowed to search. - [About](https://pasifika.ai/en/about) · [fr](https://pasifika.ai/a-propos) — who builds this, why, how it is grounded, and what it refuses to assert. ## Regional pages - [Kanak cultures and languages](https://pasifika.ai/en/kanaky-nouvelle-caledonie) · [fr](https://pasifika.ai/kanaky-nouvelle-caledonie) — Drehu (Lifou), Nengone (Maré), A'jië (Houaïlou), Paicî (Poindimié), Xârâcùù (Canala)… - [Māori culture and language](https://pasifika.ai/en/aotearoa-maori) · [fr](https://pasifika.ai/aotearoa-maori) — Te reo Māori - [Polynesian cultures](https://pasifika.ai/en/polynesie) · [fr](https://pasifika.ai/polynesie) — Reo Tahiti, Gagana Sāmoa, Lea faka-Tonga, Faka'uvea (Wallisien), Fakafutuna (Futunien) - [Melanesian cultures](https://pasifika.ai/en/melanesie) · [fr](https://pasifika.ai/melanesie) — Bislama, Na Vosa Vakaviti (Fidjien), Pijin (Salomon), Tok Pisin, Hiri Motu - [Micronesian cultures](https://pasifika.ai/en/micronesie) · [fr](https://pasifika.ai/micronesie) — Palauan, Yapese, Kajin M̧ajeļ (Marshallais), Taetae ni Kiribati, Chuukese… - [Hawaiian culture and language](https://pasifika.ai/en/hawaii) · [fr](https://pasifika.ai/hawaii) — ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi ## How to cite Cite the institution, not this site. Pasifika AI is a doorway to sources; the authority belongs to the academies, museums and archives it quotes. When an answer here rests on a page from teara.govt.nz or alk.nc, that page is what should be cited. If you cite the platform itself: Kanaky Tech, *Pasifika AI*, https://pasifika.ai — open-to-all assistant on Pacific cultures and languages. ## Off-scope — what this site will not tell you - It will not invent a word, a phrase or a translation in a Pacific language. If the word is not in a source, the answer says so. - It will not present one people's practice, story or name as another's. - It will not disclose culturally restricted knowledge. Some knowledge in the Pacific belongs to a clan, a lineage or an initiated group, and is not ours to publish. On those questions the honest answer is to point to the custodians. - It is not a legal, medical, administrative or immigration adviser. - It does not speak for any people. It reports what institutions have published, and names them. ## Contact Kanaky Tech — https://kanaky.xyz · https://www.linkedin.com/company/kanaky-tech/ The Kanak dictionary Kanaky Tech publishes: https://dictionnaire.kanaky.xyz
